Changes to HMRC’s VAT Portal will affect Sage users
Sage software and changes to the UK Government Gateway
The Government Gateway is a secure online account where individuals and businesses can register for and access government online services. Your Sage software integrates with the gateway for online submissions such as:
- VAT Returns
- EC Sales lists
- CIS Returns
- CIS subcontractor validations
- RTI submissions
- IR secure mailbox
On 14 February the HMRC gateway is closing. If you use Sage 50 Accounts to submit VAT Returns, EC sales lists or CIS submissions you will need to consider the options. To continue to submit VAT Returns through Sage 50 Accounts, you must ensure that you are on version 24.1 or above. The current gateway service is due to be decommissioned on 14 February 2018 and replaced by a new system developed by HMRC.
Businesses that manually enter VAT Returns by logging into HMRC’s website using a Government Gateway ID and password will not be affected, albeit the login pages may look a bit differently and we suspect the additional security measure of requiring a code to be sent to a mobile will be mandatory.
We recommend bringing your version up-to-date (V24.1) to avoid any potential issues. Being on an older version can leave you out of date with the latest features and technological developments that could put your business ahead of the curve.
As a fully accredited Sage Partner we can upgrade you to the latest version at reduced rates.
